5D Classic & Sensor Dust

Hi all,just wondering if anyone with a 5D classic could comment on if dust is a problem on the sensor.
It seems later models than the 5D were fitted with auto self cleaning sensors...I'm don't know how effective they are but my 40D has always remained clean!

Is dust an issue with the 5D or is it one of these things people worry too much about and it's not significant unless changing lenses in extreme conditions etc

I always give it a going over with a rocket blower before a day's shooting. But I change lenses a LOT! The lack of vibratey thing means it collects dust a bit more readily than the 40D, but is just as easy to clean yourself.

Put it this way - ive had my 40D over a year, and never had to clean the sensor once. Just recently sold it and got it checked out and was told it was clean, and didnt really need a sensor clean. It auto cleans every time you turn it off though...which might be why its kept so clean?

Let's get this in perspective. I don't use mine in any particularly dusty situations and I switch the camera off and hold it face down when I change lenses, so that nothing can fall into it. I'm also careful that there is no dust on the rear of the lens that I'm fitting, and that's quite an important thing to watch as well. My 5D is about 4 years old now and has never had the sensor cleaned other than a couple of blasts from a rocket blower about once a year.

OTOH, I see others changing lenses without switching off and they hold the camera facing up, both of which will pull dust onto the sensor. A little care can go quite a long way to preventing problems.

I use a rocket blower every couple of weeks and have the auto clean switched on - i probably have to do a wet clean every 4 months or so depending on use. last wet clean was probably 2-2.5 months ago - but i presume it depends on the lens you use and how many times you change lens - the 5D is definitely no worse than any other body I've had

OTOH, how do you find dust in the viewfinder?

Just had a look and there are certainly a few specks of dust in the viewfinder, but they're very small and don't interfere with the view for me.

I'm guilty of changing lenses in a non-best practice manner, but sometimes when you NEED to change lenses to get the shot in a hurry, you do what is needed But to put things in perspective, I typically change lenses about 3 or 4 times in a shoot and will rattle off a couple of hundred shots. Maybe I don't need to clean it every day, but I'd rather do it and be sure!

It only takes a couple of minutes to give the sensor a blast with a rocket blower while your shots are downloading. I haven't had to do any more intensive than that.

I scratched the low pass filter on my camera when I cleaned the sensor using the proper swabs and all, it cost me AUD950 for the replacement by Canon... be very afraid of these...!!! I still clean it, but once in a blue moon....
