OK, iv got a Canon 5D.. the problem i have is on a bright day i cant see the in camera display!

Is there a way to make this brighter or is there a problem with the 5D having dim displays?? (Iv never heard of any!)

There was a time when i turned it on and it was lovely and bright, but when i pressed the shutter button to focus it went back to normal..

I must say my 5D is very poor too, am not sure why, I have a 400d and a new 5D MK 2 and they are fine? Its so poor on the 5D I dont even try to make it it out anymore! :(

I assume you've been through the menu system and changed the brightness already. Not much option besides finding a shady spot.

There is no menu option to change the brightness on the internal display.. not that iv found anyway..

Ah, you're referring to the LED visible through the viewfinder... Nope, no options on those, you'd have to check your settings in the top LCD.

That just adjusts the LCD on the back Bob.. its the display in the view finder i need brighter..

No probs mate..

An obscure thought Tony but what batteries are you using. Li-ion cell voltages will typically be between 3v and 4v (giving 6v-8v for a paired package like the BP511's).
Canon BP511's are 7.4v but some third party batteries are only 7v or 7.2v

Bob

All of my batteries are 7.4v! if only it had been so simple!lol..

Id like to hear from other 5D owners with the same trouble..

check the DOF preview button isn't stuck in
to check try changing the aperture - brightness should stay constant
if it doesn't - that's your answer

have you tried another lens (big aperture)?

btw the "view through the viewfinder" is purely optical - it works even when the camera is switched off - so it's not a battery issue

I've given up with the viewfinder numbers outdoors, I can't see them at all. Rear LCD is also pretty hopeless in the sun although I did find I'd had it on minimum for ages which wasn't exactly helping....

you have adjusted the viewfinder focus?!?

Thanks for the input guys, it looks as if its a trait with the 5D, being a little too dim in sunny conditions.. i was hoping i was doing something stupid! lol..

It just makes it hard to use in manual in the sun! if i cant see the meter! i dont want to be looking over the top to see the top display all the time!

Thanks anyway..

yes that's fine they are just very feint and not particularly in my line of sight. A friends 350d is massively better in this respect, actually so was my old 3000V come to think about it.

Guys, its NOT the REAR SCREEN im having difficulty seeing! its the meter and info INSIDE the viewfinder..

Hmm.. some are bright, some are dim.. i think i need to compare it to other 5D's in person..
