5D has died - what should I get now?

Well I had a 5D classic, which unfortunately died in the sea along with my 17-40L. I am now in need of a new camera.

I only use the lens for landscapes, small (and I mean very small) bit of urban and architecture stuff.

I have had a quick look at prices and my options (I think) are as follows:

Canon 5D mk1
second hand - £600

Canon 5D mk2
new: £1650
second hand - £1300

Canon 1DS mk2
second hand - £800

Correct me if these are wrong please!

I really loved my 5Dmk1 but there are a few things which tempt me about the other 2 cameras:

Canon 5Dmk2 - more MP for cropping/ bigger prints, better high ISO, better screen, live view, video (not that big a deal for me though)

Canon 1DSmk2 - weather sealing! more MP for cropping/ bigger prints, better battery life

Sorry for the ridiculously long post but was hoping to find out:

How much better is the weather sealing on the 1DSmk2 - can it be used in heavy rain etc? (obviously dependant on the lens!)

And particularly interested in people who have moved from 5Dmk1 to either of these cameras - did you notice a marked improvement?
 
Take a trip to Focus, have a play with them all and try and haggle a discount on the refurbs they have?
 
1D mk2 runs it pretty close too, better AF of course and weather sealing, 1.3 crop, best or worst of both worlds(?) in the same price bracket these days.

Bloody hell, not another camera to consider! Ha, it is very tempting but for what I use it for I think the others would fit better.

At the moment I am leaning towards getting another 5Dmk1 as it served me so well. Has anyone noticed an improvement in image quality for the 5Dmk2 or 1DSmk2 over the 5Dmk1?
 
i think this is a good deal, the build quality is amazing for that price, even with its age I wouldnt put too much in the body knowing that this is something changing quickly.

Thanks, yep I'm thinking the same. The main thing I am excited about is the build it and weather sealing. Not bothered about the screen (as long as I can make out the histogram!) or high ISO/ video etc so think it will be a good fit. And not too much more than a 5D classic.

Im currently thinking to get an old 1D, can i ask you where you found it?
we should put more money on lenses than body :)
when i see prices now and quality of body this is more than enough !

The 5D mk II keeps the original 5D's lovely natural film-like quality, and adds greater resolution and much better high ISO performance.

If you liked the 5D mk I, the mk II should be a natural progression :) I did the upgrade back in 2009 and haven't looked back!
