5D Mark 2 Iso question

Hi Guys

What is the highest Iso you can use on the 5d mark 2 without getting all really bad noise. For example in a dark church how does it fair on a high iso setting.

I am toying with the idea of getting one. I already have a 5d mark 1 and a 20d.

i go up to 3200 - this is completely usable and whilst a fine grain is noticeable on screen, it doesn't show on prints.

I've shot in dimmly lit clubs at 6400 and managed to smooth them in lightroom 2.5 with a high degree of success. 2000iso is a regular setting for me if i'm shooting ambient.

I'd agree with that, I'm very happy to use ISO 3200 shots without any noise reduction at all - 6400 shots don't take much effort to clean up.

When I have had the odd high ISO shot to clean up I've used Noiseware Community Edition (free!!)

Yeah, I have safely used 3200 in dimly lit churches and been very happy with the results!

I have gone to 3200 during some indoor sports with good results.
I wouldn't like to go much higher than that without having to leave lightroom for my processing.
i.e the noise reduction in LR2.5 and now 3 can comfortable manage that ISO.

What are you going to be shooting? Sometimes in this effort to get every pic perfect it is hard to remember that an amazing pic is an amazing pic, and the grain sometimes adds to it.

3200 is clean, if the rest of the images is good and WELL EXPOSED you can push it a little harder
