Well, I decied I couldn't put it off any longer, and afte reviewing the finances I have ordered a 5d Mark 3 from kerso.

The fact I intend to shoot children made the decision for me really, if it were just weddings I probably would have just got another mark 2 but the focus system upgrade will help with the moving subjects that are toddlers

Now I play the waiting game whilst kerso gets more stock! :thumbs:
 
I got mine from Kerso as well...

You will love it......
 
my worry is that using it in tandom with my mark 2 is going to make me feel the mark 2 isn't up to scratch and there's no way I can afford 2 mark 3's :lol::lol:

Might be worth checking the current Canon UK stance on this. I heard they are clamping down on cross-border sales now. If they are not enforcing it in the UK at the moment, I'd guess it won't be too far in the future.

The MKII is still a good camera,should be great as a backup,the only problem i find theses days,is thats cameras loss there value so quickly :(

thats the only problem, i'll not be using it as a backup, i'm gonna be a 2 body 2 prime shooter so will be using both cameras at the same time

I spoke to canon directly the other week about a lens and they confirmed if it is sold by a UK company and you get a UK invoice, they will cover any warranty issues.

I also jumped on the opportunity to ask about Camera bodies and they replied with the same answer, they also said this is something they are getting asked anout regularly.

Oh and congrats on the new body when it arrives. Certainly one I'm looking at for the future.

Thats alway a problem,its nice to have 2 matching bodies,if they are both prime.
The big thing is the autofocus,if one camera is locking better,that would start to bug me.
All you can do is give it a go see how it works out ?,if not start saving :)
 
when you try a MK III Joe you are going to struggle with the MkII :D

Congrats on the new camera, you'll love it, I know I do. I bought mine from Hdew cameras for £2,850 with a 3 year warranty. I ordered it on a monday and received it on a saturday delivery (when I'm definitely in) at no extra. Great service again from Hdew, I got a 5D2 off them last year too, and a great price off the £3K norm.

I spoke to Canon yesterday about buying a 5D2 with a 24 – 70mm f2.8L USM lens. Both grey import, and was assured that I would be able to register the products with Canon UK, and they would honor the warranty, and provide telephone technical support etc. The only problems that might occur is if I needed a replacement part. If the equipment was manufactured for the UK or European market there would be no problem, but if it was manufactured for another region, like the USA or Asia then the equipment might have to be sent back to that region for the repair, and I would therefore be without my equipment for a much longer period.

Hi, I’m thinking of buying a 5D2 with a 24 – 70mm f2.8L USM lens from hdew. But want to check where the equipment was originally intended to be sold. Do you know if your gear was European, UK, USA, or Asian?
Going to phone the shop in morning but thought I’d ask here as well.

I can't think of anything other than the charger which would be "regional" to be fair. Canon supply LP-E6E chargers (which take a power cord) with European 5D's and the LP-E6 for other markets which have a little foldy-out plug on them. Worst case, you could pick up an E6E for around £40.

Hope you’re right, spoke to hdew this morning and placed my order this afternoon (£2255 incl del.). They appear to be a reputable company. :)

Wow that's cheap, but just Checked Hdew and the 5D3 body is £2850

Oops sorry this was for he 5D2 and 24-70 silly me ;)

Well that would have been a great price indeed, but still wouldn't buy a 5D3, 5D2 is just fine still for me. I'm sure others would be frothing at the mouth over a price like that ;)

I think when it comes to us, the mark 3 makes sense -

small children, moving quickly + 5d mark 2 with a new focus system = match made in heaven
 
took delivery this morning. Not done much but played around - first impressions are good. It's nicer to hold, the grip is a bit more robust like the 7d grip.

Surprised at how different the menu structure and button layout is actually - but two things have imediately seemed awesome - the dof preview button being where my fourth finger on shutter hand lives - and changing the setting so that it swaps between Servo and one shot is bloody awesome.

The min shutter speed works great - but I was dissapointed to see you couldn't manually pick a shutter speed -only choose from 9. 6 of which are pretty useless in my opinion. 1/250, 1/125 and 1/60 are all usefull but I'll never want a minimum shutter of 1/30, 1/15, 1/8, 1/4, 0/5 or 1.

I'd want to g the other way and have a min of 1/500, 1,1000 for when I'm doing action shots. Hoping they maybe change that with a firmware update. So annoying when a company adds a great feature but then cripples it for use. It's like they never picked up a camera before in their lives
 
$27,500HK for one of these in Hong Kong, around £2,200.

I could have bought 2...but didn't want to risk customs, VAT and lack of warranty for something that is going to cost me £5,000!
