5D Mk 3 to a 1D Mk 3?

I've been thinking for a few weeks now on whether it'd be a good idea to sell my 5D MkIII and move to a 1D Mk III.
My thinking is as follows;
1D Mk III has faster fps so would be better at sports/birds etc.
1D body built like a tank
would leave me with approx £1000 in pocket, which is the main reason!

what negatives though?
much poorer high ISO?
AF 'issues'? or were these all fixed?
1.3 crop?

Some 1D Mk III reviews say it's a great camera, while others state it's Canon's biggest c*ck-up!!
Can't find any direct comparison reviews on the net as all are for the 5D Vs 1Ds!

Can anyone add any insight? anyone gone from a 1D Mk III to a 5D Mk III?

Ive got both, ive used a 1D3 for the past 4 years, its a very nice camera, built like a brick.

I tend to use the 5DMK3 these days , taking the same subject with the same lens and 1D3 and 5D3 the 5D wins for me, i think the extra megapixels help a lot making it look sharper.

Ive never had any focus issues with the 1D a lot of people haven't , just a few who moaned loudly about it.

I went to Derwent dam the for memorial flight a few months ago, took the 5D , was sat with a load of togs , pulled it out, a bloke says that's no good for stuff like this, i said it will be fine, i was right it was fine, was also great for waddington with a 400mm and 1.4x on.

I also went to the farne islands in June, took both cameras, for puffins in flight pics,coming towards you, the 1D was terrible, ai servo , the 5D was brilliant, same lens, i tried them both. (so fast those puffins!)

I've had a 1D3 since the beginning of 2009 and a 5D3 for the past year. FWIW I also have a 7D, 5D2 and 30D and have previously owned a 40D and 50D as well.

These days I rarely reach for the 1D3, regardless of whether I'm shooting sports, BIF or anything else. It's a lovely camera, but unless you must have the extra FPS and build/weatherproofing the 5D3 simply offers more of everything, including better ergonomics. The 5D3 is my #1 camera. The others serve mostly as backups or to meet unusual needs for which they are better suited than the 5D3.

If I could keep only one of them it would be the 5D3. If I could keep only two of them that would be a very tough call to make, but I think I'd go with 5D3 and 1D3.

I don't want to lose the 5D Mk III, it was an option selling it to get another very competent camera and raise some much needed cash. ( he says after just buying a 40D as back up!!).
looks like i'll be sticking with what i have till that lottery win!

Haha, you are correct, if I had £10 for every time someone said that my 60D cant take action shots etc I would be a rich man!

At the Belton Horse trials all the guys had 1d's except me and one or two with 7D's.

They looked at us like "what the hell are those pathetic cameras!" haha

My response, lets just let the photos do the talking.

I don't have them but the 5D3 is definately the camera I shall be aiming for when I can justify it

Don't have a 1D MkIII but have a MkIV and a 5D MkIII.

MkIV is a great camera but I don't use it much now. Today been shooting fast jets at low level. Wanted to try both cameras. Shot the first couple of passes with the MkIV and the next with the 5D. MkIV never got used again today.

You might have a bit more cash in your pocket by selling the 5D but you'll have a lot more pics in the recycle bin as well
