Having just got the 5 d 2 I'm loving it
And much better than 5d
The auto iso maybe useful
But was wondering if there was a way of doing this
Fixing shutter at say 500 appat at say f8 and then the auto iso could keep them fixed

Nope. Canon dropped the ball on that one. As soon as you put it into Manual (you need to do this to fix both aperture and shutter, Auto ISO sets itself at 400.

This is fixed on newer cameras (the 7D at least does do auto ISO in M) but so far, this hasn't been ported back to the 5D2 firmware.
 
Damn not the answer I was hoping for
I'm doing airshow tomorrow and was hoping to set shutter at around 500 and app at f8 and let iso keep them up
It looks like being a bright day so may shoot manual and hope levels don't change too much

This is the one thing I really want on the 5d mkII
 
how does the auto iso work
been playing around with it earlier
in tv mode at 500 sec and auto iso the camera seemed to prefer to change app instead before changing iso
 
If it can increase the aperture to maintain shutter speed, before upping the iso (and 'potentially' degrading the image quality). When it runs out of aperture, it'll up the iso.

Ok that's understandable
But being able to set a custom setting that keeps app and shutter constant by using auto White balance would be good
