Ok have picked up my new 5D MK2 tonight, so was wondering if there are any essential settings to adjust before getting out and using it at the weekend.

Thinking more of the stuff hidden in the menus rather than the basic stuff.

Otherwise I will keep reading the instruction book.

Change the My Menu bit to the things inside the menu you use the most, for me i've picked format, battery info, quality, peripheral illumin correct, white balance... however i think i need to change it looking now... also sort your 3 custom picture styles out unless you are shooting solely in RAW

You may also want to unlock the ISO expansion modes.

I have put mirror lock up plus 2 second timer on one of the custom modes. Then it is very easy to switch to mirror lock up without going into the CF menus.

Avoid using 'P' and green square mode :)

Nothing wrong with p mode, it can be easily overridden and sometimes makes better decisions than i can, especially for a rapid shot ;)

way too much 'p' snobbery around :suspect:

oh and enable '[FONT=Verdana,Tahoma,Arial,Helvetica]SAFETY SHIFT in AV or TV' auto adjust shutter or aperture to stay within parameters when using flash :)
