5d mk2 totally dead?

Arrived on my holidays last week, brought out my camera to take some photos only to find no life what so ever, changed battery with the two spares I had to no avail the camera travelled with me on route had not been knocked or damaged in anyway any advice or help even if it is just to recommend a decent repairer.

I had something very similar happen to me (albeit with a Nikon D300). Turned out to be a failed circuit board. This by Nikons own words was "bad luck" and not caused by any impact or damage to the camera.

Your best bet is to send it in to Canon, they'll most likely let you have a quote before you commit to a repair, I know Nikon did.
 
Thanks, was thinking it must be a dead circuit board after looking out for similar problems on the internet, canon website estimates cost are £60 per hour plus parts plus vat plus postage may have to bite the bullet.
 
Wouldn't really want to pay £350 if any other decent repairers could solve the problem.
 
Had what sounds like the same problem with my 40D, cost about 150 quid to repair at Canon Elstree

Basically the fuse has blown, but believe its called the AC/AC board
 
Have you tried removing the coin cell battery as well ?
 
It's worth trying to remove the lp-e6 as well as the coin cell for 5-10 minutes then reinsert and try again.
 
It could even be the coin cell that has gone. When they go the camera is dead until it's replaced.
 
Will try removing the button battery and test hopefully it may just be that fingers crossed.
 
Big thank you to Stu artd and icee just removed coin battery and replaced and hey presto camera has kicked back into life. Fantastic.
 
Also espresso junkie and Tijuana taxi for replying, I tested the coin battery using a multimeter it showed a voltage of 2.9v it is suppose to be 3v so only 0.1 difference but will be obtaining a new coin battery a CR1616 in the next few days.
 
So how do you locate and then remove the coin battery ?
Not that I have a problem with my 5D2 but it might help others should they have a similar problem..

Great news, really glad that worked. The same thing brought my 5D2 back to life a few months back as well.
