5d mk2 vs 6d

Hi guys

Im in the process of purchasing a new body, I'm either looking at a canon 5d mk2 or a canon 6d, but not sure which to buy, what are the pro's and con's of each, I was thinking more towards the 6d due to the newer technology etc, any help would be greatly apprieciated, I know the 6d is smaller and lighter than 5d mk2 and benifits from gps/wifi which is a plus.

The biggest differences are that the 5D3 is better built and has better AF trafcking options with more focus points. Ther are lots of other minor differences, but ultimate IQ is is very similar between both bodies. The 5D3 has the slight edge is resolution due to a few extra pixels vs the 6D's slightly better noise handling due to a few less pixels. Overall, the 5D3 is more aimed at Pro's (people who make money from photography) and the 6D aimed towards hobbiests / pro-sumers. My opinion is that both are great, but the 6D offers much better value for money. However, if the extra ~£900 won't be missed, get the 5D3.

Hi Orville

It wasn't the 5d mk3 it was comparing to, it was the mk2, but thanks for your input. Mk3 is out of price range.

My next purchase would be the same option as yours and pretty much settled now on the 6D.

I don't use video and something a bit lighter certainly wouldn't go amiss, focus system looks pretty similar too even slightly improved. Not so keen on having to buy SD cards though and wish the viewfinder was 100%.
Wi-Fi is of no interest at all, not into the social media malarkey and from what I have read it only works with low res jpg's

So when it comes to it might as well go for the newer camera for not much more cash and the low light capability definitely appears to have improved.
 
Having coming from the mk2 to the mk3 and with friends with the 6D I would say that the 6D is the way to go for sure. mk2 is getting on now and unless you can get a serious bargain I would go with the modern body.

The 6D feels more like a replacement for the mk2 in my opinion.

Oops, I need to put my glasses on. I personally would not buy a 5DII whilst it is priced the same as the 6D. The 6D wins with it's superior sensor and slightly better AF.
 
I bought a 2nd hand 5dII and sold it on fairly quickly to fund a 6D. For me personally i much prefer the 6D and for the marginal price difference i am very pleased i risked swapping.

Better feel, weight, size, features, performance. Thats me though, many people would prefer the weight/size etc of the 5DII.
 
I got my 5D2 last October, before the 6D was released. I wouldn't sell my 5D2 to fund a 6D, I'm happy with the results and there's not enough of a difference imo. However if I was buying today and had ruled the 5D3 out as too expensive then it would probably be a 6D in preference to the 5D2. Although I do prefer the size of the 5D2 I doubt the 6D would take much getting used to. As has been mentioned the sensor and AF are both improved (prob debatable as to how much) and gps/wifi would be nice to have as well.
 
The only problem I find with the 6D is that it is a little too light. When attaching moderately heavy lenses (70-300L for example), it feels very awkwardly balanced compared to my old 7D. Even with the kit 24-105mm the balance still feels wrong, although it could just be me taking time to become accustomed with it. The 7D and 5DII handled better out of the box, although many will appreciate the weight savings of the 6D.

Sums up how I feel exactly. I got my mk2 almost a year ago.

The weight saving in 6D is very welcome IMHO. All lenses are different, so there's never the right "feel". Left and grabbing the lens and right hand lightly around the camera to operate. I think the only argument for balance of the camera is when you are using it one handed, but these full frame DSLR are too heavy to use one handed anyway, that's what x100 is for. :D
 
Just did same as u and went with6d due to tech and price. Check digitalrev out on price, yes I know it's grey but look at price
