Have just ordered a 5D MK3 body which I am very excited about and have noticed a few people posting some great aviation images taken with this body.

Would anyone who has used the 5D MK3 for aviation or motorsport mind sharing which of the autofocus cases they used. Case 4 looks like the most suitable but interested to hear results from others.

Thanks

I've used my 5D3 for airshows, flying birds and sports and usually leave it on Case 2, to continue to track subjects ignoring possible obstacles. That way I find it easiest to track the plane, bird or whatever without worrying if another passing bird will take the focus off my subject.

For me I find Case 4 best for taking subjects coming straight towards me such as runners or cyclists etc. but you can tweak the settings to suit how you're shooting. Best thing is to try them all and see which suits you best for what you shoot.

I generally just leave it on 'case 1' for everything... Occasionally, it'll be spot-on for the first shot but it'll miss slightly with the second for head-on shots but there after, it's fine!

I need to play with the settings a little bit more but so far, I haven't really had a need. The most challenging 'targets' I've had so far have been red kites... Their movements are very erratic but the 5D3 copes really well. I get a lot more keepers with this camera than anything I've owned before!
