5D mk3 lenses....

Ok guys and gals,

Looks like there are a few 5D3 owners out there....what is your sharpest killer lens with the 5D3?

I would have thought all sharp lenses will be as sharp on a 5D3 as any other Canon DSLR. :shrug:

I would have thought that the FF sensor is more demanding of lens quality, especially in the corners, and that you cannot just throw any old piece of glass on it.

Quite possibly so! However, everybody has different tastes and flavours, so it was a case of putting it out there to see what ticks peoples boxes!

Very true! Any body had any experience with the Tamron 28-75 on it?

Probably my sharpest is my 135mm f2.

I'm without a 35mm f1.4 at the moment, so my favourite right now is the 50mm 1.2. Quite simply one of the best primes I have used.

135mm f2 is a close second though.

I've just bought one for my 6D and it's nice and sharp from wide open. Borders and corners are actually OK stopped down a bit, will do some testing when I get a chance

My sharpest lens? I have two actually, Carl Zeiss Planar 50/1.4 and Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 35-70/3.4 :naughty:

A FF sensor is more demanding in the corners, but an aps-c sensor (eg 18mp in 7d etc..) can be more demanding in the centre of the lens - more MP concentrated in a smaller area of the glass so more demanding of resolution within that area.

I agree. Most manufacturers, especially with lenses designed for crop cameras concentrate on as high a centre quality as possible. This however doea not always translate into good edge quality. There is a site called "photozone" that tests the same lenses on both crop and full frame making it relatively easy to compare them
