Holy carp! £15 at my local camera shop! Though I'll be watching this for hints and tips too as I need to clean mine tonite (if I get a chance to buy the stuff).

Used to clean 5D when I had one and now regularly clean 1DsII.

I use an Arctic Butterfly most of the time and wet clean with Eclipse fluid and the paddly things. Had one disaster where I got oil on the sensor from picking it up with a pad and it took all 17 pads I had to get it nearly clean apart from around the edges. As I was off to Scotland the next day I had to make do with it and then sent it to Fixation for a professional clean when I got back.

Clean mine before every wedding Rog and not had a disaster yet. I do also have mine done at Calumet periodically, costs £35 there. £60 is waaaayyyy too much IMHO.

My 5D has been cleaned by me several times with no problems. (It seems it has also been cleaned by Paul a few times too as I bought it from him :) )

Other than using E2 fluid instead of normal eclipse I do it as per my cleaning thread here

cheers

guys

yes £60 recommended by canon .. i have tried my rocket blower and that dosn't seem to shift anything ... one camera has so many spots when i look through the view finder .. but can't move them no matter what i do .. i know they wont show on the photo .. just a distraction .. but one or two spots on the sensor ..

it just scares me to death if i get it wrong

Rog

just make sure your battery fully charged and follow the giude,

Sensor clean :p .... but when i look through view finder i just can't get rid of the bits of cr*p .. as i said i know these won't affect the photo but why won't they move .. the sensor turned out to be easy compared to the rest

but the main thing is the sensor is clean

My viewfinder used to have stuff on it, but I found that after I'd dropped the camera it was clear. Probably not the best solution though.

 think i will give that test a miss ... unless anyone else has tried it

Viewfinder dirt is on the ground glass screen. You can see it through the lens mount at the top of the camera. The glass is textured. that means whilst it is possible to clean the screen it is also very easy to make it worse.

I know because I made mine worse once. Took a lot of gentle cleaning with a miniature sensor cleaning style swap and a hint of eclipse to correct the problem. I wouldn't recommend trying it. A bit of dust in the viewfinder does not matter.

So Rog, what kit did you use and did you follow Robert's method?

Hi Ingrid

i have a cleaning kit for a 5d with the fluid and pads etc .. used the blower first with a gentle blow then some fluid on a pad as shown by Robert .. one wipe across the sensor wet then turned pad over and one wipe dry ... did this twice on both my camera's ..

as for the other dirt through the view finder .. i'll try what you say Robert .. it is as you say easy to make worse .. just seems to move it around rather than get rid of it :shake:
