Hi all
Just got my 5D2 today. So far so good, but I've got a question about the shutter.
Comparing it with my 50D (and my previous 40D), the shutter on the 5D goes deeper when I press it and it does not make the clicking sound. Is this normal?
This is a canon refurb from ebay and its got nearly 5 thousand clicks.

Well, I've got a 5DII and a 10D, and I can't say I've noticed much difference in the shutter "feel".
 
arad - yes it does, but the feel is different, I have to press a bit deeper as I said and it feels like the (sort of) spring is weak inside. And I have to press deeper when taking photos.

nealeholl - it feels weared, I have handled 30D, 40D, 50D and their shutters all felt the same.
 
It's the same with the 5D II. The shutter release button is a "soft press" button which does not have a distinct half-press stage/feedback. It's a little strange initially but you quickly get the hang of it. I believe it has something to do with minimising camera shake (or so I've heard).

Thanks for that, I'm planning to go to good old jessops and try theirs...:)

But do you hear the shutter "click" when you do a full press?

Nope, there is nothing. On my 400D, I get two distinct stages; one half press and a 'click' when the shutter release is fully pressed. The 5D II button never 'clicks' even when fully depressed and does seem to go deeper than the one on the 400D.

No click. You get two levels of pressure. Light pressure takes you to focus and harder pressure to then fire the shutter. Don't have anything else here (yet) to compare it with, but I didn't notice much of a difference from my old 450D
 
thanks highpriest and andy85, my mind can rest now. Just been to a shop and tested their 5D, shutter is similar to mine...
