5D3 and Sigma 50-500 problem

Going through images from a recent trip I'm starting to find a few like the one below. It's 50mm at f4.5, 1/500, ISO 500, +1/3. On another image, still at 50mm, the problem is less pronounced with an aperture of f5. Could it be the lens hood? I was having trouble rotating it fully until it clicked into position.

Almost certainly the hood, I've had it with my 24-70 when I've not positioned the hood correctly and getting this type of thing real PITA

Is it the newer OS version of the 50-500mm?

If so are you using the hood and it's extension ... if so the hood extension should only be used with a crop camera.

If not then just ignore me

As above, certainly looks like the lens hood

A quick check is to take a shot at 50mm without the hood and with the hood in place / not placed properly and see if you can replicate it...
