Is there away on the 5d mark iii to move you're control for the aperture whilst in aperture priority.?

I generally shoot manual so associated the aperture with the back wheel, but when you switch it to AV it goes to the dial on the top.

Anyway to change the controls for this so the aperture is on the back wheel and the exposure comp is on the top.?
 
I don't think so, no.

You can switch the operation of the two dials in manual mode, and you can switch the direction they rotate, and you can lock them. So what you want is probably possible if the firmware supports it, but I can't see any way of doing it with the standard Canon firmware.

One suggestion: if you tend to shoot in manual mode and in Av but not in Tv, you could swap the assignment of the two dials in manual. Then you'd always use the top dial for the aperture, and the back dial would be shutter speed or EC.

Yeah, doesn't seem like you can, have looked through all the menus. If only you can change the setting for certain modes.
 
I've just done a detailed check of the functionality offered by the Magic Lantern firmware. No joy. I'm convinced that what you want is technically possible, but it would require a firmware mod, and I've never heard of anyone actually doing it.

Thats what i am thinking, it must be possible it seems something simple that should be there already.
 
I've recently bought a 1D Mk IV. Guess what?

EDIT: Just checked the manual for the 1D Mk III. It's in there too. And the Mk II N. And the Mk II. And even the original 1D. So basically Canon's professional range of DSLRs have been able to do this since 2001.

Feel like tearing your hair out?

RESULT!!!

You can do it. It's on the "Custom Controls" menu. From page 333 of your user manual:

I was wondering something similar the other day.

In AV mode (whist frozen in front of a bird) I thought a gentle turn of the easily rotated rear dial to adjust aperture would be 'nice' compared to using the top dial.

In AV, my rear dial controls the -/+ exp comp but I adjust that less when hunkered down.
