Hi,
At a concert tonight and the 5D would not focus consistently. I thought initially it was just the low light issue but it was inconsistent even against bright lights.
I don't know if anyone has had similar issues. I wonder wether it is the shutter button itself....

Ideas?

When you say "even against bright lights" you know that it looks for contrast between light and dark, and not just light right?

Test in more controlled conditions. Perhaps if the 5d has it, you can use rear button focus to test?

I came down this morning because I suddenly thought it might be the lens......Then I saw the camera was completely dead! Yikes!! Then I touched the grip and it started working......The grip screw was loose so I am hoping that that was the issue.
I was at a gig and could barely see the camera let alone anything else but when it started playing up I assumed it was the 'poor light AF syndrome'. But it was much much worse than that!
I will try under really poor light laters... Ta for the replies

by controlled conditions I meant test it in acceptable light...

And if you think it's the shutter button change it to rear button focus for a short while to test.

Unless you eliminate factors one by one you won't get anywhere fast.

Yeah, you need to test it under controlled (repeatable) lighting conditions - from perfect light, to poor light, to terrible light, to uneven light. That's the only way to identify such a problem.

Nope it was just the battery pack screw was loose!! What a plonker. Just treid in a very dingy room AF spot on!
Lesson learned!

Cheers
