so ... can I use my ancient flash guns with my new 5D II ???

is it a high voltage body ? ... or do I need to check my flash ???

any links to any info ??

I have the miranda 450 cd , miranda 700 cd, and cobra auto 150

I think if you RTFM it says that the Camera is okay up to 250V as a trigger voltage.

Personally I would never use anything with greater than 150V trigger voltage without the use of a Wein safe sync.

also , I have no idea what voltage my flashes have ???

As I said, RTFM, page 104 will give you all the answers you need.

And it specifically states under 250V.

You can find out the trigger voltage of your flashguns by powering them up and checking them with a multimeter set to DC volts (can be bought from about £7).
 
Just to make sure we're talking the same language here....

Are you referring to connections using the sync socket or hot shoe mounting...the answers will be very different.

ah ... how did I miss that, I read the bottom bit just below !

... although, it does state the PC should not exceed 250v but the hot shoe just 'may not fire' ???

I was asking about the hot shoe ... but I was also unaware it made a difference ! I thought the PC and Hot Shoe were effectively the same connection ?

I suspected that may be the case.. I believe that the hot shoe trigger is limited to 6v and only the sync port can withstand the 250v detailed in the manual.....maybe someone can confirm or correct me.

you would think , on a high end body, that a couple of $ worth of components would make it compatible/safe with old flash guns ! ... dont they remember the components they used in the old 35mm film EOS bodies ??? !!!
