I can't get my mark 2 to tether, tried 2 laptops (win7 and vista) half a dozen cables and installed the eos utilities disk in its entirety so I'm reasonably sure its the cameras fault.

anyone got any thoughts as to why, its not even seen as a drive (in system manager) and afaik has had no trauma as it conked out in a shoot and I've just gotten to testing it properly.

My backup is a 5d classic which I don't think tethers at all :s
 
Have you got LR3? if so you might want to try tethering through that, it might even work with your 5D mark1.
 
I've had bother tethering recently with laptops/netbooks. I'm thinking it might be something to do with the screen res? Works ok on the desktop.
 
Try another USB port. Oh, and you say you've installed EOS Utility from the disc. Try upgrading to the latest versoin, available for free download from the Canon website.

The 5D mkI will do tether shooting and I've done it, the only thing is you don't get a 'live view' preview.

The 5D mkII should load work fine, although like the 5D mkI you may need to change a setting in the menu to 'PC Connect' for it to work.
 
ok its definitely not a lightroom issue (tried it on one machine) though would be handy if I could tether the 5dI I'd still rather be using the decent camera for a few upcoming product gigs

not a port issue, tried 2 laptops

the issue is with the camera because it doesn't show as a drive so whatever software won't be able to see it.
