For anyone familiar with the 5dMk2.
Are you able to pull stills from a video you have taken?
Has anyone actually done it, if so how do the stills compare to a conventionally taken shot?

Being able to record video would be great for my club work as we do get a lot of decent performers in, but i can't record a video at the sacrifice of taking photos, and using two cameras at once is, tricky.

I did try out something (topaz I think it was) that was supprisingly good with HD video (not from a 5d2 though) but it wasn't anywhere near as good as a proper still shot.
I'd try a trial version and see if the quality is good enough for what you need.

Thanks.

I don't have a mk2 yet, and wasn't really intending on getting one any time soon. But depending on the outcome of this, it could tempt me to do it sooner rather than later.

You can press the shutter fully whilst shooting video and take a still at the normal camera settings (raw in my case). The video will have a very short clip missing for the time the shutter is in use and the focus will be whatever you had for the video but it will be a full res still.
