I have a 7D and 5dMkII, the 5d2 is not the hottest at moving subjects, the 7D is pretty good in this department.

I use the 5D2 for wide stuff and Macro where i need a good fov (products).

The 7D i use for birds.

Is it really worth getting the 5D3? Does it become the one body solution?

The only thing the 7D has going for it is the crop factor. Since buying my MkIII I hardly use my 1D MkIV. The AF on the 5D is in a different league to the 7D. High ISO on the 5D is way better. And I'm not talking about 800-1600 I mean 2500+.

Well, you say crop factor, but that's offset by the 5dmk3 can autofocus at f8 on centre point, so you can add the 1.4 tc

That's the crux of changing from crop to ff now. If you can keep somewhere near the focal length you're using now then you're better off with one. I had a 7D and 5D2 and sold both to get a 5D3 when they came out and managed birding quite easily with the 5D3 and my Sigma 150-500 OS. Now that I can focus to f8 with the 5D3 I can use a 1.4x extender but I hardly ever do.

Thanks for the input, I was unaware the 5D3 could AF at f8 on Center, that's very handy to know.

However than bank manager is not impressed LOL
