I know all about both these cameras but would like owner feedback. I know most of the pros and cons for these, I doing a lot of swimming Photography so need high iso. and as the d1 has the digit 3 and the 5d has 5.
I am more pulled to the 1d but the price is Ouch but I do believe the build is the best:clap:

Only got experience of the 5D3 and its a stunning but of kit :thumbs:

Not sure why your considering the 1Ds3 it's a studio camera more that anything, not really a sports camera at all :shake: surely a low mileage 1D4 would suit you a lot better if going down the 1D route??

Well you didn't say that in your opening post you talked about a lot of swimming photography, I suspect you need greater than the ISO1600 that the 1Ds3 offers for that type of photography ;)
 
5D3 purely and simply because of the better ISO handling. The 1DS3 is a great camera and fantastic in the studio, especially when good glass is attached to it, but the 5D3 continues to surprise me everytime I use it...I just wish it had 10 fps shooting speed. There is a sports tog around who uses the 1DS3, I cannot remember his name but he produces stunning work with it and swears by it. I personally started out doing sport with a 1DS3 but soon realised I had chosen the wrong body for me.

I shot some Rugby today and the images from both the 5D3 and 1DX are stunning..

You will certainly not be dissapointed with the 5D3 especially with the upgraded AF.

I'd like to be able to say one day :lol: but the 5D will be well beaten by that monster of a camera, I would have thought if you were considering spending 1Ds3 money then you'd go 1DX ;)

The AF speed is better on the 1DX and obviously the frame rate. I have used both bodies on the both the 400 2.8IS and the 70-200 mkII, I prefer the 1DX on the longer lens and the 5D3 on the 70-200. Both combinations work extremely well but it's the 5D3 that surprises me more with the gains over the 5D2, AF and metering are both excellent.

One thing that I have realised is that when I'm shooting rugby and I'm on the longer lens the time between a player coming toward me and filling the frame and having to switch to the 70-200 is much shorter due to the 1DX being full frame and not having the 1.3 crop factor.

I find that I am doing less PP adjustments in LR4 with the files from both the two bodies....I'm either getting better or the kit is more accurate. Either way they are both super bodies. I keep thinking, could I do the same job with two 5D3's.... But I couldn't do without the faster frame rate.

I also like the fact that the 5D3 has an SD slot so I can use the EyeFI card in there whereas the 1DX has two CF slots.

I'm still getting used to the zoom function on playback ....it's just so different to the MKIV's.... I'll get used to it soon, I'm sure.

Another big plus for the 1DX is the ability to crop in really tight from full length pitch shots....today was very eye opening as the light was fantastic.

MMMMM I do like the 1dx But takes some selling to get your money back and was looking for bigger Glass maybe 300mm 2.8 :) can anyone comment if the iso is much better on the mk3
 
I have the 1dx and 5dmk3 both are amazing bodies the 5dmk 3 files IMO are better at the lower ISO's but as they get up higher the 1dx has better dynamic range, I was shooting in heavy rain with my 1dx and the thing didn't miss a beat its just a machine I wouldn't have trusted my 5d3 to those same conditions. I also like the ability to link spot metering to the AF point on the 1dx which is great and it's much more customisable which is great :)

there's a sports photographer who uses a speed graphic large format camera
be the master of your tools and take interesting images

1ds3 is ~£1500 on the second hand market with 20k clicks, about 1/3 of the price of a 1dx

top iso of 3200 is a problem though,



that being said, 1ds3 will probably be my next body to go with a 1dmk3

Some tools are more suited to certain jobs... I dont see what your post was highlighting.
 
I seem to find that a max iso 2000 does my job so would the 1ds be ok at that level MMMMMM the 1dx shooting in heavy rain :) now thats top end eh :)
how is the build quality seem on the mk3?

Not top end lol but I would not have put the 5d3 through the same conditions,it built well but not got the same level of weather sealing as the 1dx 1ds will be good too though
