Wanna bet?

I have no doubt that the 'Elf'n'safety brigade are already there and waiting!

you know that an april fools joke is supposed to have people actually believe it even for just a split second, not be ludicrous!

lol

I actually get it now. They used them in the Apollo 11 mission.
And it was a hoax anyway wasnt it?

I'm not sure - I remember reading at the time that the cameras were left behind to conserve weight.

Well - you obviously don't know your camera history

And you do...

Though I do own up to an error - there are 12 camera on the moon....

On each landing the hasselblad Lunar Data cameras - which were based on the 500el but had non essential items like their viewfinders and mirrors removed and special lubricants that wouldn't boil off... and a special 60mm biagon lens. They also had reseau plates fitted - which gave the distictive black crosses on each image. Each had a 200 exposure back using 70mm film. At the end of each mission the "useless" camera and lens were left on the surface - along with the cine cameras, and countless items used for experiments. They also left a special box mirror which boffins here can shine a lazer onto to check how far away the moon is - and perhaps how much cheese is left!

There is a bit on the UK hasselblad site

One little known fact - the photos from the first landing - are not of Neil Armstrong but of Buzz Aldrin. The camera that Buzz used to photograph Neil Armstrong suffered an "undisclosed" error and there were no usable images - so apart from the reflection in Buzz Aldrins visor, there are no hi rez photos of Neil on the moon... just crappy video!

I recall in the 1980's being on the Hasselblad stand at Focus - or it might of still been "Photography at work". I was having a problem with my Hasselblad - and a snooty salesman on the stand said - but sir, they take our cameras to the moon - yes I said - and they swap them for rocks and earth (or would that be moon?!). He didn't know what to say....

my comment was nothing to do with camera history. It's not the fact that there are cameras left on the moon that make the pun ludicrous, it's the fact that they were going for a tenner as per your title thats ludicrous

Well it looks like I'm quids in!! My mum brought me an acre of land on the moon and after checking my deeds it looks like I own that very spot.... All I gotta do is persuade me mum to give me a lift there to stake my claim!!

Be careful when going to the Moon, another little known fact is that the moon is actually flat! if you get to close to the edge you are likely to fall off!
I know this because one of the Hisseblod cameras left on the moon fell off the edge and landed in my garden!!
It was autographed on the casing by Noel Armstrong.
I recently sold it for on ebay for 6 sheep, 5 cows and three women(one was pregnant).
All true and i have documents to prove.

Me too - I was going to open a pub there - but no point - there's be no atmosphere!
