I currently have a 600d thinking of getting a 7d would it be worth it is my question. I have a few lenses non of them are L lenses though
main ones I use are a 50 f1.8 mk11 and the 17-55 f2.8
or should I just get an L lens

I upgraded from a 400d to the 7d just over a year ago and haven't regretted it at any point, the configuration is intuitive, the extra shutter speed I great (and so handy for wildlife stuff, and sports as I'm finding!) having the extra bit of ISO helps too.

You already have a good camera and lenses....

You say you take photos of sport...the obvious lens missing is a telephoto zoom....70-200mm f4 (or the F2.8) L would suit.

Don't change body until you know that your existing body is lacking. For instance, I changed from a 400d to a 50d as I needed better ISO performance. Now I am looking to go to a 7d (or even a 1d) as I want better weather protection and even better ISO (for indoor sport).

I take alot of pics of my dogs out in the grounds and motorsport some times
weight isn't an issue really not when I have a 50-500 sigma
as with most men I just like tech spec gadgets lol
the 5d mk3 is looking like a willy waver but the price is putting me off and not sure I would need a full frame

On that comparison, you are only really gaining a weatherproof body and a faster burst rate.

Still think you should be considering a 70-200 "L" zoom for quality photos.

with hint site I should have perhaps bought a body only and say 2 or 3 L lenses instead of a range of of cheaper reasonable quality lenses and a body with kit lens
thinking on I did infact just buy a 600d body and used the 18-55 kit lens off my 400d
I never sell anything I still have the 400d and my canon 35mm and the lenses I bought for it

Now I am very confused about the equipment you have. Your original post said you have a 17-55 F2.8, now you are saying you have an 18-55 kit lens.

Maxim usually is go for good glass first, then body.

Sell all of your lenses except the 17-55 f2.8 and 50 f1.8 and your 400d, then buy some L lenses e.g 70-200 f4 (as long as you use a telezoom)

Ok we gathered that u have the 50 f1.8 18-55 17-55 f2.8 and a 50-500 what else do u have?
I would sell most of the lenses and keep the 17-55 f2.8 and the 50-500 and than get the 100mm f2.8L macro is usm and a flashgun like a 430 ex II. That way u would have 2 top notch lenses and a goodish super zoom and upgrade body later on when u feel that the 600D is lacking behind. But we still don't know the full list of lenses u have. I've had the canon 18-55 is canon 55-250 is tamron 17-50 f2.8 vc and sold them all in favour of the Canon 15-85, no point keeping gear ur not likely to use.

a list of some of the lenses
50 f1.8 ,
ef 28 f2.8,
efs18-55,
efs 17-55 f2.8,
efs 17-85 f4-5.6,

tamron 18-270 f3.5-6.3 vc pd,

The 7D's AF is miles better and it has a much bigger viewfinder as well. Plus it has the second control dial and top LCD.

It apears u have a lot of lenses with the same focal lengths.. As I said above really. At least that is what I would do.

i was thinking of getting rid of a couple
50 f1.8 , keep
ef 28 f2.8, keep worth **** all
efs18-55, keep for the 400 as its worth a round of drinks
efs 17-55 f2.8, keep as it is a belter
efs 17-85 f4-5.6, sell
efs 55-250 f4-5.6 sell but not worth alot
tamron 18-270 f3.5-6.3 vc pd, keep as it is a good walk about
sigma bigma keep
sigma tc 1.4x ex keep
sigma tc 2x ex keep
kenco tc 2x dg keep

Are you photographing the moon with all the TC's and the 50-500? Personally I'd sell everything except the 17-55 and 50mm then buy a 7d and 70-200 F4, Do you really need the length of the 50-500, if you do keep that too.

I can't see how you can possibly contemplate moving to a 7D. You'd have to change your user name, for goodness sake !:eek:

ended up with these tc's as the sigma ones only fit a couple of cannon lenses but none of mine, so I found out after I bought them. I didn't ask the exact right question to the seller it would appear
so ended up getting a bigma
