60D or 70D

Morning all.

I have a 5d 3 and 1d 3 but with a holiday coming up I don't fancy taking either of them. The 5d because the value is too high for a kids pool holiday and the 1d because it's a lump and my wife will struggle to use it.

Last year I bought a short term 7d to do similar in Florida and it was ok but not amazing. It did the job though. I punted it on when I got back.

Looking on line I can buy a new 60d for just over £400 and a 70D for £600. The 70 looks to have a better focus system but other than that in the real world is there much difference? I've had a 40D and 50D in the past and enjoyed them, but over time you forget how good or bad they were compared to your new kit.

For general holiday shots and maybe a little extra reach for the odd zoo trip I thought a 60D might do the job.

Any thoughts on these two please?
 
If you plan to sell the camera when you come home then buy the cheapest. If you plan to keep it then I would buy the 70D. It will compliment your other cameras well and is a fine camera.
 
if you want video use, the 70D.

If you are mainly bothered by image quality then get the 60D as the difference is non existant so you save money.
 
I'm not overly worried about video capabilities to be honest.

How do they compare in low light / increased ISO?

Whether I sell on return from holiday will depend on how well I gel with it and if I consider I will use it again.
 
Non existant to be honest Gary, the comparable shots I think anyone would be hard pushed to tell.

In raw Canon themselves said the performance was nigh on identical between the two, in jpeg the 70 is slightly better at noise control but from the shots I have seen side by side at the expense of some detail which would account for the slightly better out of camera jpeg noise.

But in saying that I have shot my 60D all the time at 6400, I've printed A4 shots at 6400 no problems what so ever and 18x12" on canvas and would push it larger if the need arose.
