60D v 7D colour depth

I've read that the 60D can 'capture 10% more colour' than the 7D but haven't a clue what that means or why it should be. Anyone care to enlighten me?
 
Is the screen res not a completely different thing from being able to capture more colour depth?

I'd have thought that any increase in colour depth capture was possibly down to different A/D or other processing, perhaps in the same way as the reportedly better noise performance of the 60D is, probably.

As you say, they have the same sensor so why there should be a difference is something of a mystery, and I doubt I would notice 1% (the '10%' was me mis-remembering)!
 
So is the 60d a worthwhile purchase? I am looking into a second camera body and its looking mighty tempting, is it much better than a 550 etc?

I expect it's different processing or at the most slightly different circuitry. The 7D was the first with that chip wasn't it? So they're bound to learn and tweak things with subsequent models.
 
If you can easily afford the 7D then you shoot mainly fast moving objects such as sport or BIF then that's the one for you. The 60D is only let down by the amount of focus points, which is the usual 9, but the rest is very good. I had a 5D2 and 7D and sold them both to get a 5D3 and 60D for backup. I had some exposure and focus issues with the 7D and I prefer the output from the 60D, although I would like to try another 7D now that the updates are supposed to of fixed the previous 7D problems.

I have a 60D and am looking for a second body. It's either a 7D or a 5DIII. Any thoughts on which? Is the low light performance of the 5DIII really that far ahead of the 7D's?
 
I tried a 7D a couple of years ago for a week when they first came out and was pretty amazed by the amount of noise it produced, even at low ISO so I didn't go ahead with the purchase. I recently bought a refurb from the Canon outlet on Ebay (along with a 70-300mm L) as I wanted something with faster AF and more points than my Pentax and have to say either the one I got originally had problems or they have done something in the firmware because it is much better than I originally remember.

Not as good as my Pentax K-5 (which has the same sensor as the Nikon D7000) but it's still pretty reasonable.

Now if Canon had put that Sony sensor into a 7D it would have cleaned up in the crop DSLR market.

I think (and the reason I did not go for the 7d) is if u need weather sealing and more focus points go for the 7d but for me I liked the flappy screen and usually only use the middle focus point put the extra money towards lenses!
 
Oh should add I'm easily happy with Iso up to 1600 without to much noise but nothing will ever beat a ff... U will spend even more on glass then though to get the most out of it..

And it's the glass, along with a couple of other 'issues', which has stopped me from already having gone for the 5DIII. My Sigma 150-500 will be fine on it, but the maximum reach will reduce from 800 on the 60D to 500 on the 5DIII. Realise I could crop to get some of it back, but I don't think that that's the way to go. My 18-250 is a 'crop' lens and I use it as my walkabout so I would have to replace that, but I don't seem to be able to find a decent candidate at a sensible price and, again, I would lose reach.

Yup. It's shullbit. Both capture 14 bits. It's a good indicator as to how crap that site must be.

Both have 14 bit processing engine, but claiming that both capture 14bit is totally out of proportion (chances are they hardly get to 12bit mark). But to be fair 7D and 60D have very similar if not almost identical sensors inside.

Both capture their data using 14 bits. Now not all of those bits may be significant, but they definitely capture 14 bits.
