60mm macro and teleconverter?

I bought my tamron 60 mm f2 macro lens to double as a portrait lens but I am finding for close up I wish I had more working distance and magnification. I cannot afford to buy a longer macro lens but was wondering if a 1.4 or 2x teleconverter would help?

I was looking at the kenko AF teleconverter as I know the canon would require a tube as well to make it fit. How would it affect iq? I know I would loose light but would stop down for closeup anyway. How would it affect AF?

normaly slower af, and you will loose abit of detail.
i think the tamron adaptall needed 2x tele or extension tube for 1.1, for what its worth

I was admiring David Chambons images in a magazine and it says he uses a tamron 180 plus a teleconverter.

These were taken with a Tamron 90mm macro, Kenko 1.4 TC and Kenko tubes on a Nikon D90.

Thank you they look great. Do you find any loss of IQ? Is AF still ok with the teleconverter? With macro I tend to use AF then manual focus overide with non moving subjects but for fast moving insects like bees I use AF.

In theory there is a slight loss of quality with a TC, but I can't really see it with a 1.4X. A 2X might be more noticeable, though.

AF still works, but is slower. I never use AF at these magnifications, just moving the camera to get focus.
