Actually, from reading reviews, the 17-35 does not perfrom well on a DSLR. The 17-55 DX is much better in this respect and can be had for similar money from HK.

really? i used one recently on my d70 and it performed very well indeed but then i've not tried a 17-55

Have a look on FM and you might see what I mean. TBH I would be surprised if it was bad, but thats what a couple of people say. :shrug:
