I got a new toy courtesy of photoguard, see my other thread.

Anything I oughta know about it thats different to the 80-200?
Any tips and tricks cos I know all lenses have subtle nuances.....

Is the pouch it comes with vaguely weatherproof similar to the lowepro belt system ? Could be handy for that

more questions likely to follow when I get back in from shooting tonights open mike

Yes, it's rubbish. You should post it to my right now for disposal!!! :D

:D is it bigger than the 80-200 it feels fatter and the metal feels less metally my 800-200 felt like a bit of russian tank barrel but with glass in it and its defo longer though that might just be hood, it gives me space for a flashgun in front of it in my bag when on camera :D

An excellent piece of glass, but they don't like being dropped :p ;)

Wouldn't trust the case to be waterproof tbh, although I've never tried with mine..

allegedly it's not as sharp wide open as your 80/200

congrats on the new kit :)

Yep, I believe the IS version is sealed whilst the non-IS version isn't.

Nice purchase though, enjoy it!

Really? I find that remarkable for the price. I owned the 70-200 L and thought that it was weather sealed. In fact, embarrassingly enough, I thought the L designation were one of the main reasons and standards to buy into, i.e. all L lenses were weather sealed? My 17-40 L I thought was as well when I owned that.

Hi congrats on a fine lens, i owned the magic drainpipe before i got my first 70-200.
I find the focusing quicker, being able to get closer to subjects all pros, only con i feel the colour rendition to be slighter less vibrant. probably just me

A 1.4 extender makes this a fine lens and pic quality remains much the same obviously you are then down to F4 but i find for widlife and sport it is fine.

My 70-200 is my favourite lens although i am thinking of selling to get a Sigma 120-300 f2.8 (am i mad?)

considering a 1.4 quite seriously for loop stuff as a 300mm is out of my budget atm

I also consider both to be pros as the slow focussing is a pita and the near focus distance meant I couldn't use it for tight headshots indoors
