Hi just got my new lens 70-200 F4L.

it was second hand so got no instructions (if they have them or not)

On the lens you have the infinity switch (The one with the horizontal 8) one is 1.5m and other is 3m.

stupid question but want to make sure I know what I am doing:thinking:

How dose it work and what dose it do and when do I use each one 1.5 and 3m.

Set to 1.5 if you are focusing on subjects up to or near enough that distance and switch it to the other position for anything beyond 3mtrs :thumbs:
 
It is the minimum focussing distance, so unless you are focussing on something in the 1.5 to 3m range leave it on 3. Saves the AF searching. Doesn't seem like much but makes a difference if it is having focussing problems (low light etc).

Think of it as "do I want to focus from 1.5m to infinity or 3m to infinity".
 
Stops it focusing beyond that point as if you know you're always going to focus beyond 3m, the focus can be quicker especially in low light. My 100 L has full, infinity-0.5 and 0.5-0.3m. The amount of rotation between 0.3 an 0.5m is about 2x 0.5-infinity...

BTW, I think you'll find it's 1.2m, not 1.5m too ;)
 
With the switch set to 3m, it will autofocus faster because it has a shorter range to run through than if it were set to 1.2m. Handy when shooting moving objects. For landscape etc, it don't really matter as you have more time.
It's called 'Focus Limiter Switch'

Only took about 10 pic of random items so can't really pay much

But well impressed and its my first l glass as well so happy days

And sorry your prob right about Bing 1.5 the lens is downstairs lol

Oh Yea the bad thing about the lens is just bought a kata bag every thing fit nicely now this lens only just at a angle and now got no space... lol so of bag hunting..... grrrr lol

I have a Kata DC443 shoulder bag, which in the main compartment I can squeeze a 7D body, 50mm f1.8, tamron 17-50, flashgun and my 70-200mm f4L :) None of the lenses are attached to the body, though, they stand up. Helpfully, the 70-200mm is the perfect height!
Let me know if you want a picture of it

Yes please that will be very helpful I am going America in July so want to make sure every thing is safe

Not sure which kata bag I have its not the 3 in 1

its the one where you have a laptop compartment main compartment and at the bottom you have the camera compartment that you open up and it pulls out and down and you fix the tripod to the side sure its k something I know its the biggest of the three in the range

But if you can send some photos that would help give me some ideas

Just had a look on internet it looks like the dr range bag I have
 
Here we go...

It all shuts down lovely, nothing rattles around. I could happily fit a grip on the 7D and still fit it in.

I use the rain cover (supplied with the bag) as a divider for the 17-50mm and 50mm, as the proper spare dividers are a bit too big to fit that way. You can customise this bag almost any which way you want, the dividers have velcro on the edges.

I often manage to stick my wallet and a beanie hat on top as well, saves me taking another backpack or something.

The whole bag is just under 30cm long, so it's a perfect size for carrying around with you, I've taken it round London a few times!

Well managed to get every thing in now but have to take lens of and store body only.. going to cause a few more lens changes so hope the dust stops out... and I can't buy any thing more as that's the bag full lol
