Yes
Does the tripod ring come off the Lens. I can loosen it to turn around, but it does not open fully, or am i not doing it right, don't want to break it, just want to make it lighter to carry around on the body.

Hi

Which 70-200 - Canon, Nikon, Sigma etc

On the Canon yes it will come off - you take it off the lens mount end. I believe you fully loosen / unscrew the fixing and carefully remove it, taking care.

Hope this helps

The tripod ring is located on 3 lugs - first you open up the main locking knob so the ring is able to rotate and then rotate the whole ring slowly and you will find that where the 2 Red dots on the tripod collar ring and lens body align you will be able to slide the collar ring away from the rear of the lens.

Loosen the knob on the tripod mount. Then rotate the tripod mount until the red dots match up. Then slide off from the mount end.

Reverse to re-fit.

Must be slowing down, late again ...
