Hi,

I've been told after enquiring about the 70-200mm f/2.8 lens that on my D300s used with a tele-converter that I will loose auto focus. Is this right or just if I use a non Nikon T.C. Thanks..:)

No you wouldn't I've used them on my camera and everything works ok

Thanks Ingrid, didn't think i did but just wanted to check.

The answer is a little bit long winded but basically it will work with Nikon extension tubes if they are actually autofocus ones, I think for the 70-200 that's going to mean that they need to be AF-S tubes. I believe you'll also retain VR with these.

There are other TC that will work, I believe Kenko are well regarded. Where things get murkier id when you try to mix lens manufacturers. I know for example that my Sigma 2x would not fully work with my Nikon 70-200 yet worked great with my Sigma 70-200. No idea why as you'd think the contacts would be similar.

You will lose AF if your maximum aperture goes beyond f5.6

Attach a 2x onto any f2.8 lens and AF should still be OK. Attach it to a f4 lens and tbere goes your af as your maximum aperture is now f8.

As much friends on the tele itself so check if it is af compatible etc.

i would use a nikon 1.4tc i used to use the 1.7 but now stick to the 1.4
