Hi all

I'm thinking of getting a 70-200mm f4 IS L and a 1.4x converter to fit onto my 5d mkI.

Has anyone any experiance of this combination... I know it becomes a f5.6 with the converter added and have heard no bad reports... but just wondered if anyone on here had any experiance of the combination on full frame. Advantages, disadvantages? Any tips or advice for use...

And really are they a happy couple??? Would be good to see some shot examples?

I hope so as I have just bought both! Searching through the threads here it looks as if they do go together, and give better results than the 70-300 IS.

yeh those shots seem great if you where shooting at 1600

the 70-300mm was my other consideration... but really at the point where im wanting to spec up my glass now i have a bit of money... and the 70-300mm is a great lens but not a quality lens...

I've always wondered why there is no market for a 100-300mm pice of L standard lens by Canon... the 100mm-400mm seems quite extreme

wow, talk about a coincidence, I will hopefully getting a 70-200L IS f4 in a few weeks and I was also wondering if the 1.4x converter would well with this lens.
A converter would be ideal when we go on our Alaska cruise later in the year.
Thanks for starting this thread Mark and thanks Ed for your reply and your link

I've only used this combo (70-200 f4 IS USM and 1.4x) on a 40D but very impresed. Replaced a 70-300 F4-5.6 IS USM.
