70-200mm for studio?

Evening,

I have been watching a lot of kelby tutorials recently and one thing that I noticed is that he always uses a 70-200 for in the studio.

Now I have considered this previously as I am moving to a new studio and decided I want to put more space between myself and the client especially children.

Just wondered what's views you have on using this lens for the studio?

Fine if you got the room,even more so if your shooting on full frame,but would still have a smaller zoom range on hand :)
 
i will have the room, but only shooting on cropped. yeah i do have another zoom lens on standby.

Just getting frustrated that i an get in close on some shots without being in a childs face so looking to shoot from further back to reduce this and hopefully capture some better shots.
 
erm, new term there dx or fx?

doing portrait work of families and children but also working with models in the studio

yeah sorry should of noticed you was a sony man, can you borrow or rent one to try, i have used a 70-200mm nikon in the studio a couple times on my d700 but would never managed with the d300, and that was only uper body shots.
i use a nikon 28-70mm for my studio work and a 50mm.

yeah it would be nice to try one first as the lens i am looking at is £600 so would like to try it first but cant seem to locate anywhere that stocks them, other than online.

i have a 50mm and 35-105mm(i think) that i use in the studio but that doesn't get me close enough
