I currently have a Sigma 55-200mm lens on my D60. What would a 70-300mm lens give me over the 55-200? Obviously I'd get closer in but would it make that much difference?
Thanks Les - I talked myself out of this option last year and probably will again this year and get a macro lens instead"As zoom lenses, both the 200mm and the 300mm offer the flexibility of a range of focal lengths. Whereas both are telephoto lenses, the 300mm can bring a distant object 1/3 closer than is the 200mm. However, the added weight of the 300mm might necessitate using a tripod in more shooting situations."
Found this on answerbag dont know if it will make you any the wiser. There was something on the net where you could look at a picture as though it was through the lens so you could see the difference between zooms of lenses. I cant find it now and someone else on here was looking for it again I dont know whether they found it. Hope they will see this and let us know if they did. It was very usefull.
The other side is that you will lose some of the wide angle focal lengths (55-70mm). Personally I'd prefer to have more wide angle and less telephoto, but it depends what you're photographing.
