7D - 8 FPS?

I have been shooting sport with either my 7D or my 1Dmk2, and bizarrely my 1D seems to shoot more FPS. Having googled it today I note that there are some problems making the 7D shoot at 8FPS in manual mode. Has anyone had any problems and if so what solutions have they found?

Depends on how you have the focusing set up, if it can't focus it ain't gonna let you shoot. What sort of light is this happening in.

Yesterday I was shooting at iso 600 1/1000 f2.8 - didn't seem particularly quick

Make sure you've got the drive mode set to 'H' (yes, I know it's obvious, but...). Switch off High ISO NR (P. 208). As Ken says, shooting AI Servo can slow the speed (p. 210).

Also make sure that "Silent Shooting" is switched off p.137 otherwise the frame rate is only a max of 7fps.

silent shooting? does it really reduce audio sound of the shutter?

Never tried it as it's for LiveView only.
