7D battery condition indicator

My 15 month old 7D has about 6500 actuations, and I use a grip with 2 batteries, one the original and one bought about 2 mths after the camera was bought.
I haven't let the batteries run completely down so far, I've tended to recharge them before an important shoot.

The last time I charged them, however, I noticed when I did a battery condition check when they were back in the camera that the green indicator thingy had gone from 3 greens to 2 greens.

Now on my 1Ds3 you can do a battery discharge and then recharge, and that seems to sort the battery out, in fact it has the decency to tell you when this requires to be done, but sadly the 7D charger doesn't have this facility.

Anybody else found this, did you do anything about it and if so, what?

I did a total discharge of both batteries in the camera yesterday ( took lots of shots, played with the IS etc) but on recharge they are still the same.

My origional Canon battery in my 5D2 is doing that.

The two chipped OEM ones I got off ebay are still working full level.

I wouldn't worry yet, although like you it does make me wonder how long they will last.

Not had my 7D long enough to experience this but will keep an eye on it. Does make me wonder whether Canon have used the new "chipped" battery system to forcibly "retire" batteries after a certain number of cycles, even if they could handle a load more! :(

Well they certainly haven't on the 1 series, my batteries tell me when they need a full discharge and rechasrge, and the charger does it automatically.

Don't know why they haven't done the same on the 5D2 and 7D.
