7d Battery Grip Error code

Bought a 7d a couple of weeks ago & also a generic Battery Grip from eBay. Used the combination for a couple of days & all was fine. The first time I came to shoot a fast burst the camera froze & showed the error code "80" I took the batteries out & re-inserted them. This cured it for a couple of shots then the same thing happened again showing the same error code. I removed the grip & re-fitted the original battery cover complete with the single battery. All works perfectly. I tried the grip again after checking all the contacts. After a few shots the same code came back up & the camera froze. Once again, when removed & original battery replaced, all is fine.
I have 4 batteries, 1 genuine Canon & 3 generic ones. All are recognised by the camera.

Any ideas??

Are you on the latest firmware? Version 2.0.3
 
Check the grip contacts all spring out correctly, sounds like a power issue.

Otherwise send the grip back for refund. What brand is the grip?

Hello Mr Sane. Yes, All of the contacts seem fine. No sticking etc. The grip I think is just a generic Chinese one. Looks very well made & certainly not cheap looking.

I have just refitted the grip with 2 fully charged batteries & have tried 2 high speed bursts. All seems fine
When the errors occurred it was cold outside. (One day snow, the other just cold!) Both the batteries on both occasions though were fully charged.

Could it have been the cold?
 
I have a Meike grip for all my bodies and the only time I've had any problems was when I was caught out in a shower. I kept the camera as dry as possible and it worked fine during the shower. My ERR80 came up about an hour later when I went out after it had stopped raining. I removed the batteries and the grip and gave them all a wipe and it worked perfectly from then on until I dropped my 7D recently and broke the grip and damaged my 7D badly http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=471778 and I've since sent off the estimate to my insurance company and I'll see what happens, but I wouldn't hesitate to get another 3rd party grip for one.
 
Well, I took it out this afternoon and it has performed faultlessly. Very strange. Each time I press the shutter I am expecting the dreaded Err80
