Hi to everyone my first post:wave: I intend to buy some new gear as i sold my old dslr etc recently, i have been looking at a new 7d but i can not understand the difference in pricing, the better known camera shops are selling this camera up to £1100+ and yet i have seen the same item as low as £865 at some of the internet sites with a twelve month guarantee, the same as the well known shops, surely the cameras are made at the same factories?
and when out of guarantee they are both the same ie out of guarantee? so am i missing something? looking for advice really before i lay out my cash on camera and lenses. Also looking for a canon 400-5.6 prime. Thanks Tony.

just be careful of the online stores - some have a bad reputation and issues actually getting the products, if its too true to be true , then it will probably not be true

this site has been mentioned here
http://www.alexandertrent.com/acatalog/canon-digital-cameras.html
but some followup research showed issues in getting the good and the phone number did not match the location

so , maybe just used sites where you have people posting with real experience

http://www.alexandertrent.com/acatalog/canon-digital-cameras.html looks like you can also pickup from the shop - so thats a useful thing to know

Totally agree with niv2 I've bought a few items from HDEW in the past and never had any problems.
Just had a quick look on their site and they've got a cracking price for the 7D body.
Kerso is another great value for money online retailer.

Hi and welcome to the forum, I can also reccommend Hdew cameras very highly as I've had a 5DMkII with 24-105 f4 L lens kit and a 5DMkIII body off them. The cameras are 'grey market' imports but, Hdew use a Canon approved repair service centre for their warranty work anyway so it's just as good a package, only cheaper. They also supply a UK vat receipt so Canon accept that for warranty work also.

Another company I've bought from online is www.panamoz.com and their prices are excellent too, here's a link to their 7D http://panamoz.com/index.php/digital-cameras/canon/canon-eos-7d-digital-slr-camera-body-only.html . The price you see includes all import duty and vat as well, so what you see is what you pay. The only difference with panamoz is IF you do need any warranty work doing you have to send your item back to panamoz and they fulfill the warranty claim and send it back to you.

I'm just waiting for my 6th Canon body to be delivered and have 9 lenses between myself and my wife (plus lots of lenses that have been sold on), 5 flashguns and loads of other gear too and not 1 item has ever needed any warranty work doing to it. The only item I've ever had a problem with is a flash doesn't fire every time I shoot with it. The gear is reliable, not everybody needs the UK warranty all the time, once it's out of warranty it's the same thing anyway. I guess what I'm saying is get it for as cheap a price as you can and you can get more for your money.

Thanks for the replies guys, you had some gear there Stuart, will check those out cheers. Tony.

Just got my first digital setup.

Got my 7D from HDEW yesterday. Very cheap with 3 year warranty (their own, but I think Canon over the first year). Got some lenses and flash from Panamoz last week and a rather lovely 100-400 L lens from Flashcamera (Ian Kerso)

All 3 are well reviewed on this site and I have no problem recommending each of them. Some things are cheaper on each site, so I used a combination of all 3 to pick up the best bargains

Flashcamera delivered from UK and came quickest, closely followed by Panamoz (2 days from Hong Kong) and just under a week for HDEW.

No VAT or duty issues with any of these

Happy hunting
