7D flattens a battery even when off

I have an EOS 7D which is flattening batteries overnight even when the camera is switched off. Could it be water ingress? I purchased the camera from Bestbuys in August, I’ve taken it back and they want to send it back to ‘depot’ and this could take 2 to 4 weeks with no offer a loan camera.
 
i am taking for granted that u are using OEM batteries.

if the battery was full and it drained it overnight, this is abnormal and it wont be due to water ingress.

send it back!
 
Yea it's the original battery. I'll take it back and be camera less for a few weeks. thanks
 
I saw a thread where the poster had an almost identical problem over a year ago on DPR I think, so you might want to try a search there.

The short answer is get it fixed now whilst it's under warranty.
 
Suggest you contact Canon at Elstree, they should repair it quicker than that, I'd have thought!

Absolutely, and no mucking about with a middle man that doesn't understand the camera!

That Middleman is presumably the retailer with whom you have the contract, so IIRC, you have to deal with them rather than Canon direct. It's situations like this that make me always try to buy from the high street rather than over the web, so I can have a real face to face contact at the shop rather than mucking about with e-mails and phone calls.

Bestbuy have retail outlets, so the purchase may well have been from there?

There's no issue at all dealing directly with Canon when it comes to warranty repairs and investigations. The retailer will only end up sending it there anyway.

When the manufacturer offers a warranty you do not have to deal with the retailer, you can go direct to manufacturer.

Personally I would rather deal direct with the company doing the repair than somebody in a shop I have to go out of my way to get to.
 
Again I say....take/send to Elstree, Stu doesn't say where he lives, but by far the quickest way to get it done I'd have thought is to go to Canon direct.

Amazon's policy (not bestbuy i know) now is they refer you to the manufacturer, my daughters P&S packed up the other day and i thought send it back to Amazon (they used to send you a replacement first and you had 30 days to return the old one). Now not the case, her camera is off to Kodak Germany, picked up by UPS today.

I would imagine if they have started that a lot of the online retailers will end up going down that road too. They do state that if you get no help from the manufacturer they will help.
 
I've tried a different battery but the same thing happens. I took the camera back to Best Buys in Southampton where I live because I thought it best to go back to them first. The most annoying thing is that if I had taken out their extended warranty when I purchased it they would have exchanged it there and then!!
