7d Grip problems

I have an original Canon BG-E7 grip bolted to the body and have recently had a problem with it.

It seems the shutter release button will only press in, it wont operate the autofocus, has anyone had this problem or know if its an easy fix?
 
Does it fire the shutter ok? Do the rest of the grip buttons work ok?
 
Hi, no it fires and very occasionally allows the autofocus to work, all other buttons are fine and the shutter on the body works perfectly too.

Didn't know if these were twitchy or prone to clogging etc
 
Ive not had any problems with mine, is it under warranty at all?

Not that I'm aware of and, whilst I might expect that sort of thing from a cheap clone, I wouldn't put up with it from a genuine Canon grip, considering how much they charge for them.

As said above, if it's under warranty I'd get it looked at.
 
Found my paperwork today and its 1 year and 6 months old, and they only have a year on them. Still going to give Canon a call and see if it can be repaired.
 
Have you removed it and cleaned the contacts? I had a problem with mine recently, whipped it, out gave it a clean and all has been fine since (my symptoms were not the same as yours though)

After having a play with it today, the shutter release button feels a little spongy. So I am s=assuming that the mechanism has worn or something rather than clogged up.
