7D HD MOVIES HELP.

Last week for the very first time i used the movie function on my 7D, no sound but just a few different takes of my Daughter on her horse.

I now have 5 short films on my hard drive and they play fine through windows media player but can anyone help with regard how to edit and join these files, are there any free bits of software i can use, should i convert the files to AVI or MP4 or leave as is?

Never thought i would use the movie function, now i have i would like to do it properly.
 
editing the footage natively is a hog. Ideally you need to convert to an intermediate codec where you then edit and then convert back. This makes the editing much faster.

windows movie maker is free and will let you do basic edits.

I have a mac so can't offer much help for a converter you can use for free on windows
 
Windows movie maker for quick, easier but simple edits.
Probably next (cost wise) would be something like pinnacle ending up with Adobe Premiere.

I could kick myself as i have widows movie maker on my PC but did not even think of it, Thank you.

Thanks, looking for the cheap route unless i really get into it then maybe Adobe it will be.
 
I would suggest transcoding first as editing the native HD files will be a HUGE overhead on any PC. The software I recommended will also allow basic editing. Good luck with the project.
