My question is which is best rout to take?
How much will I loose if not Gen bat is it only the display?
What do the timer grip give me, and do I need it?
Any one do this let me know what they got and how good it is..

If I've read it correct I would go genuine grip and battery only, email Kerso on here to see what he can do.
 
Nah, I have third party grips going back years and years for my 350D and more latterly 40D and 7D. All at half price or less than Canon ones. Never had a bit of bother.

Don't pay rip off prices for something that does the same job. It is, after all, pretty much a battery holder, it's not rocket science.
 
The timer will give you timed remote shooting as well as time lapse etc. It's also perfect for taking multiple shots such as star trails etc. The timer will also allow long (bulb) exposures.

I have a non OEM grip and it works perfectly :)

Chaz - my biggest bug bear with some of the non canon grips was the lack of full wheel/button functionality - especially since I use back button focus.

Not got a 7D but in both my 5d, 40d and in past 1d I have used mainly non original batteries and all have been superb.

i been trying to get prices from him some time no but no reply so he lost a body sell.
Just seen where u live up till 2000 I lived at e. Prawle
 
I use a MeiKe battery grip on my 5D2 it's a tad better than the Phottix one, I do however use unchipped Phottix batteries and the only downside is no battery level.

I have 4 Phottix batteries and just leave 2 in my bag charged. I have only once had to change them whilst out togging and that was bacause I forgot to charge them and they went flat. No harm was done I just had to change batteries.

Remember to store your battery flap up the side of the grips bit that goes in the camera, thats what the curved strip of plastic on hte side is for, to keep the battery flap safe.
