7d popup flash fault

I'm in Lapland right now. -10 etc. On day one I was using the external flash. I took it off but later in the day, the popup stopped working. After some checks, I've discovered that the camera still thinks the hot shoe is in use. Any ideas

There is a little microswitch button on the hotshoe which can stick down. It is under the leaf spring. Use a toothpick to gentle wiggle it free.

As Mark said sometimes this micoswitch sticks down. Some very gentle persuasion can help.

Had the same problem with my 7d a few weeks back and was exactly what posters above have said. I did have to embarrasingly have to use Google images to see where the switch was located. A kitchen knife was all that was needed.

Thanks all. Back Home now sadly. I'll schedule some surgery later. I suspected it was something like this. At a guess the 50d has a similar arrangement?

Here's the guide I used as when I searched I saw all sorts of posts/pics about removing the hot shot etc, but none of it was needed with the 7d!
