Would be gratefull if anyone could advise me as Ian Kerr is on holiday.
This happened once lst week then about 3 times yesterday on the TP meet.

Camera suddenly decides it cannot access the card and prompt comes up with reinsert card or format it. After reinserting card yesterday it worked for a while before doing it again.

Today its having none of it. message is now constant even after reinserting the card (s) tried 5 different cards in all and comes up same with all of them.
These cards are all fine on my sons 50d.

Have cleared all camera settings and am using fully charged battery

Camera faulty ???

Any suggestions please
 
I have indeed even changed for another fully charged battery.
I purchased this camera last November and this is the first instance that this has started happening. Last week I thought it was something to do with having used the card that had been in the 50d so changed the card and all was ok. although both cameras take same type of card.
Yesterday it started doing it about 3 times in 100 shots which was annoying to say the least. Today have gone to use and no joy at all.
 
In addition to removing the main battery, you should try removing the button cell so that the camera resets completely. The cell in question is in the battery compartment.

Hang on a mo, what make are the cards ?

Are they cheapy cards, or good cards.

I've had all sorts of problems in my 5d2 and 1d3 with the cheaper end of cards.
 
They are Sandisk Ultra of varying ages from a few weeks to a few months. 7 in total now Ive tried.

Thanks Canon Bob I have already done that, your meaning the little slim jobbie thats in the side of the main battery housing.

That's the one Les.

Here's an idea that might provide a little more info....

Put some files on a card and insert it into the body then see if you can read them back via Windows Explorer and the USB cable....the camera should look just like a hard drive. This would atleast tell you if the card is communicating with the body.

If you have tried multiple cards and they're all duff and the same ones are ok in another body then it points to an issue with the 7d body. Could be dirty or bent card contacts on the body. Check them carefully.

If it will let you reformat a card on that body does it behave once it has been reformatted or does it go screwy again?
 
Just done as youve said Bob using the USB etc still coming up Card cannot be accesse Reinsert/change the card or format card with camera. yesterday it had err 2 on it now it has err cf but same message.

Its looking to me like the 7d I cant even get as far as formatting the cards.
I am pretty carefull with my cards and they are all working fine on the 50d.
 
Hi Les,

what setting do you have on your camera when this takes place. Just wondered if you have pre-sets in C1, C2, C3, is there a problem with the setting and the light that is upsetting the camera. Raw & Jpeg together may also delay matters - slow it down ? Also a call to Canon may help sort it.

I have this, though it's only been a couple of times (fingers crossed) I found it happened when shooting several pictures in rapid succession, then if I tried to shoot again while it was still writing it would give the cf error and lose the shots. Most annoying when shooting in burst at fast aircraft.

Hope you get to the route of the problem.....and it's not expensive!

Hi Neil I cant even get as far as shooting in succession. Just dug into sons kit again and found an old card is a Lexar a cheapy *** its doing same with that.

I bought it from Kerso but he is on holiday at the moment so it has a warranty on it as only bought last Nov.

Just so annoying that it should happen now as I have a load of Shirehorses to do at the w/end looks like the old 50d will have to be top dog again

Well Ive just sent an email to Colchester cameras as they are very helpfull.
Im using raw only and its the same in av tv etc. As soon as I just switched it on it said busy then screen message comes up. dont recall it saying that before.
Have just been down and bought cheapy Kingston card doing same again.
Yesterday it threw the card message when i used camera in portrait position thinking about it.

Well My lovely 7d has returned today from being repaired It has had a new cf unit put in (whatever that is) hope it wasnt too painfull for it.
So fingers crossed and hopefully no more problems from now on.
I did miss its focusing system while having to use the 50d so well pleased to see it back.
 
I think you will find it is the compact flash card conection unit with the prongs on that mates to the card

Do you have the latest Firmware - I got "Err02" until I updated to latest.
