7d shutter count weirdness

I bought a new 7d.... very nice!

I took some shots, on a new card, downloaded them & was surprised to see the file numbers up above 3k :cautious:

I checked the shutter count since the fresh battery - 97. At this point I thought I'd been sold a "not quite new" body. :bat:

So I downloaded "eoscount" to check the complete shutter count, answer - 97!

My question is why the file no on the card is different?

I have around 2.5k 40d shots on this hard drive, maybe more. I wondered if the files have been designated so as not to clash with these?

Any ideas? TIA

The number on the card often has little resemeblance to the camera if its been used in more than one camera. If youve been using it on your 40d, its probably continuing from there.

I did wonder about that, Tom.

But I only took a handful of shots in the 40d before the 7d turned up. Maybe it's the card that's been used before, although it came properly packaged.

I wouldnt worry. If the camera says 97, its 97.

The card might have been reset, or used elsewhere.
