Does anyone here use the above setup?
 
I have a 7d and tamron 70-300vc. Haven't used them much recently but made good use of them last year.
It's a good combination and I got some (in my opinion) very good results, printed one off at A3+ for a friend to frame and hang in their dining room. The lens stabilisation system is very effective.

What subjects did you shot? I would use mine for football and motorsport
 
Unfortunately I can't comment on sports usage. I have used it for a few bird photos in the garden, at the zoo and managed to have a go at some bird in flight photos one day. Other than that its just been general use with the kids.
 
I've had a go with the non-VC 70-300 on a 7D and I was genuinely impressed with it for the money. I wasn't using it for anything serious, I just had a chance to pick one up for under £100 and wanted to see what that money would get you. Honestly, it's not a bad lens. In fact, I'd say for the money, it'd be hard to beat. I'm sure I have images from that lens with a 7D if you'd like.

I tried one on a 400d and hated it. Easily the worst lens I've ever used and easily beaten by the Canon 55-250 for the same price.

The 1:2 macro was the only OK thing about it.
 
I've owned both of those and with the exception of the IS on the Canon, I'd still rather go with the Tamron. Not only do you get the extra reach, but on MPB, you can get the Tamron for £70/80 which is a bargain in itself but also 40 to 50 pounds cheaper than the used 55-250s they have. You can't expect much from either at those prices but the Tamron is infinitely usable for such laughable money.
