I'm still using a good old, bog-standard cable release... Does what it says on the tin.
Having said that, I've also got the little IR remote that worked on the xxxD series but for some reason Canon never thought to allow for with the xxD series. At least it works on the 7D and the 5DMKII I believe.
I don't however, see the necessity of buying the actual Canon branded release... there are plenty of options out there for less money that are just as good.
I've recently acquired a Yongnuo MC-36B remote from Ebay. Bit miffed as I was expecting something that looked very similar to the Canon remote, but the seller offered me a £ 3 refund and I couldn't be bothered to raise a paypal claim or the hassle of a return.
I bought an el cheapo wireless job for my 350D, unfortunately Canon in it's wisdom chooses to have different connectors on 7D, why not standardise, I guess so they can try to sell additional kit when we upgrade bodies.
