7dayshop wireless remote and d7000

Hi all

I just got one of these in the post today

The remote and receiver seem to be working together ok but not causing my d7000 to actually take a photo

Whatever I do it will not release the shutter. Even if I press the shutter release button on the receiver.

The instructions with the remote were sparse but relatively easy to sort out

I wanted to try the bulb mode in manual, but I've tried this in a variety of settings and it seems to do absolutely nothing

Am I missing something or does this remote actually not work with the d7000 as advertised?

Have you rotated the dial beneath the mode selector (the one with CL, CH, Mirror up etc.) to the remote icon? (it's on the far right of the dial)

Yep

In manual set to bulb mode, when you turn the release mode round to remote the display changes from showing "bulb" to "---"

Update to this, I got an RMA from 7dayshop (VERY quickly I would like to add) but before returning ok tried it again and it works!

Possibly I may have not had the cable inserted fully but I think most likely it just doesn't work as expected and the instructions are practically non existent

It is worth noting for other users of the Nikon D7000 (not sure if it will be the same on other compatible models) that this remote does not work when the camera release mode dial is put on the remote setting. It focuses in this mode (if auto focus is on, apparently does nothing when set to manual focus), but does not take pictures.

So, Instead you need to place the camera in the release mode that you actually wish to use (single, continuous, timed etc). The bulb mode option of the remote itself therefore only works in conjunction with setting the camera to that mode also. Not ideal depending on what you expect to use this for, but for 12 quid you can't really grumble!

I think this was most likely the problem I was first having since i was trying to set up for long exposure, M & bulb mode with manual focus with release mode dial set to manual. D'oh!

I have a similar 7dayshop unit ( flash and camera remote), the cable was dodgy where it plugged into the camera body and actually left the metal shield in the camera body, ( fine pliers to extract ! ). But once i fixed that it works ok just like a cable remote, you leave the camera as though you are pressing the button on top, as that's all the cable in the accessory port does.
