I now carry 860 odd dollars on my back sometimes when I go out! All of it I acquired in 1 year, and with my camera I have taken 8200 pictures. Call me crazy? :shrug:



I'm sooo happy with my camera! :clap:

How much do you carry on your back/shoulder?

For sure! When I finally got around to counting up how much I had put into this hobby of mine, I stepped back and thought, "Phew, guess I just better not think about it and it won't worry me!"
 
I have about £1700 on my back, £2700 if I take the laptop anywhere too! :lol:
 
Call it a nice round £6k when i'm out doing wildlife :eek:

Was with the mrs at a bird hide location recently and someone started to talk about the cost of his equipment, then someone started talking about £6k lenses ... the mrs' eyes were boring into my forehead ... "of course not love, this lens is nothing like that cost" ... didn't mention all the other kit!

Just totted up. I guess I carry around £2500 worth. Eeek! Pretty scary as I only started this hobby a year or so ago. Could be worse though, my other pastime is sportscars. Now there is something that can get really expensive. Had to give that up for a while with our first child on the way.
 
Around 4k here. It pays for itself though so I can justify it!
 
Around 6-7k but it pays for it's self and it's insured.
 
Had to total it all for the insurance, around £15k in total of which I carry a mixture around depending on what I'm doing, but on average about £5k

Same here in total but when I'm out with the "big boy", it's about £9K. And it doesnt pay for itself in monetary terms, but the pleasure the kit gives me cant be bought

Pointless thread, surely it's what you do with your equipment rather than how much it cost to buy. A pro tog will carry more expensive gear than most amateurs.

Also someone into motorsport or aviation will take more pics than someone doing landscape work.

In the grand scheme of things it should be about enjoying taking pictures not adding up what it has cost us to purchase the gear.

Very true, but some of my best photos have come from my 18-200 canon and my nifty, both cheap lenses.

I agree, but this is just for amusement and to have a bit of a shock! :p Maybe even to show how long we've been into photography and what kind of use our kit has been through.

Mines getting on for £5k, I do have it insured tho' so it's not so much of a headache. And thats since christmas last year. More goodies for christmas this year coming as well.

If im out shooting sports and distant stuff probably up to about £6900 in a backpack
My normal shoulder bag for shorter ranges about £4900.

Never mind stuff like batteries, memory cards and all the other little bits in the bags.
 
Just points out really how careful we need to be. It's really easy to just grab a bag of expensive stuff.

Earlier this year I was out on a field trip around the lakes with friends from Wild About Britain.
When we were all around the table for tea, we worked out that there was probably £20k worth of photographic gear scattered between us around the table.

Wildlife photography is expensive :nuts:
